Mango

I know I am supposed to be trying my first chocolate chip cookie recipe, but my sisters dog, Mango, caught my attention. She is getting older but has the spirit of a pup! Everyone who meets her falls instantly in love. I, not being much of an animal lover, have found myself starting to take interest in her. We go on walks and I even change my voice when I talk to her! All day long she sits in her bed and just stares at her surroundings. What is she thinking? Here she is looking out the window on this beautiful winter afternoon. Does she know its winter? Does she know that it will soon be hot so she can get back to her sun tanning out on the front porch? I wonder what goes on in that little brain of hers!

All I know is that she is very smart and the second I start baking she will be sitting pretty with her ears propped up waiting for me to give her a bite!

Chocolate Chip Cookies

The English Onion Soup was a hit! Although my hands reeked of onions for days which turned me off from even eating it, the rest of my family really seemed to enjoy it!

Now for my next experiment, I am on the hunt to find the best chocolate chip cookie. I will be acting like a chef in the test kitchen of Cooks Illustrated. For those of you who don't know what Cooks Illustrated it, its a cooking company where they try many variations of the same recipe to find the best version. So here I go, my own take on chocolate chip cookies! I wish I was getting paid for this though!

There is a slight problem though, today is the start of Lent and I have given up all sweets and junk food (including chocolate) so if there are any takers out there who would like to be my official taster let me know!!

French Onion Soup

Today, I am going to experiment. My love for food and curiosity of so called 'simple recipes' on the Food Network, has prompted me to try out English onion soup courteous of Jamie Oliver (I am wondering why this is so different from French onion? Maybe its because he's from England??). Although this recipe takes almost two hows of constant supervision, I am wondering how easy it can be. Easy enough for a food-illiterate person to whip up and impress their spouse with after a long day of work? Easy enough for a gourmet chef who's been in the trade for multiple years? That is what bothers me about these TV shows, sure it has to take them half half hour due to episode lengths, but is it realistic when they come back from commercial, their pot roast that takes 8 hours to cook is done? If I was really looking for a specific recipe I would just look online or in a cook book, not wait for it to come on tv then after days of waiting, write down directions for half hour while watching a cooking show! Take Rachel Ray for instance, essentially, you could cook a three course meal right along with her during the course of her show. Although I truly despise this lady and her abbreviations (E.V.O.O.- extra virgin olive oil for all your newbies!) her show is realistic.
Anyways, I am going to try out Jamie Oliver's English Onion Soup, topped with sage and cheddar cheese! Maybe the cheddar cheese is what makes it english as typical French onion soup has gruyere melted on top? If anyone knows the correct difference, please inform me!

Off I go. Wish me luck on this 'simple' recipe!!

Blogging

In todays society, it seems as if technology is moving quicker than a car on the highway. The ever changing source of communication is hard to follow. From MySpace to Facebook to Twitter to Blogging! Why can't we all just decide on one system, then improve it as time advances instead of recreating something new.
Anyways this brings me to my point of blogging. What is the purpose? To let absolute strangers in on your observations of life? Why am I even doing this? In a way its because of my curiosity to try new things hence why I am writing today.
I would like to think of a theme and keep it consistent throughout my post. I will think of something and get back!
